Is this freaking kitchen, man. Everything’s electric, it has a dishwasher, and an island that doubles as a cart?

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

Yes, I marked my territory with an Audi R8 GT and a smart. :3

Also, other things I love:

My room has a closet that consists of two giant body length mirror panes (photobomb from Miss Dodge). Advanced selfies!!!! :D

Kinja'd!!!

Basically every light fixture is a chandelier of some kind.

Kinja'd!!!

The garage, which is a mess so I didn’t take a pic of it yet.

Some specs on the house: It has 4 bedrooms (two upstairs, two in the finished basement, two car garage (three cars since mine are half-cars), two and a half baths, fireplace (well, now it’s electric) pretty much all appliances, and soon our rooms will be personalized. Hers will be hot pink with a heart on the wall, and mine will stay blue with a white heart to match the trim. :)

Since this is my house, I hope to stay here for an extremely long time. :D

Congratulations! Everything looks awesome! But can you explain how the island doubles as a cart? Is it on wheels or something?

Call me contrarian, but I’m more a fan of gas for a range. Quicker heat for essentials like eggs, better ability to use such things as Mexican griddles or an asian indoor grill.

I’d prefer anything than a glass top. My curent house has a 1970's JenAir electric range with coils. It actually cooks really well once you figure out the heat input. I would still prefer to cook on gas, but that’s not an option right now.

Same. When I bought my house and re-did the kitchen, I insisted on running gas for the stove. The house already uses gas for heat, but for some reason the stove was electric. Nope.

Better heat control, too - and don’t get me started on the ‘broiler’ function on my electric oven.

Congratulations, looks like an amazing place. I couldn’t help but think you should play an elf on the shelf type game with the mini-Smart. Move it to various places in the house and see how long it takes to be noticed/mentioned.

I’m no fan of electric either, or glass cooktops, but I despise cleaning our gas range. Wiping down a sheet of glass would be infinitely easier. I’m becoming less and less of a fan of stainless appliances for similar reasons.

Huh, I haven’t used an electric range yet. This one gets crazy hot though, so I’m interested in cooking with it. I suck with cooking most things anyway so I probably won’t notice the difference xD

The oven works fine - - the broiler function isn’t so hot (literally). If you need to broil something, you need to let it heat up a long time, and put the food closer to the heating element than you would for a gas broiler.

Better yet, just fire up the grill outside. :)

There aren’t any gas lines going anywhere near the kitchen and I don’t want to know how much it’ll cost to get one over there. :O

Many electric ranges have different outputs even for the same diameter burner. So, medium on one burner doesn’t give the same heat as medium on the adjacent burner. Check the manual to see what the wattage is for each burner and adjust accordingly.

Be sure to preheat them before putting anything inside. If you don’t, everything you try to bake will be burned on the bottom.

Best part is the hood vent. Please tell me it actually vents outdoors. I hate the recirc one we have. Nice looking place.

Out of curiosity, how well does induction work, as far as heating?

(I’ve just got old-school coil electric, though, in my apartment, and that’s all I’ve ever known. Modulating the heat is a pain.)

Kinja'd!!! RamblinRover Luxury-Yacht > bhtooefr
07/26/2017 at 08:44

Kinja'd!!!0

There may be better induction setups now, but all that I’ve ever used have been more or less just like coil except for ease of cleaning. Slow to come up to temp unless you start by firewalling it, and even then...

The one at my dad’s house might actually be worse than coil because the cap has enough thermal mass that it comes on slow even when set to maximum. So I guess that’s your answer - same heating up problems, less flakiness around the intended heat.

Agh it doesn’t. It vents to the right side, which should be okay as there’s a window in that direction.

The house was supposed to be an inexpensive flip, so the contractors used what resources were already existing. The previous owner(s) never ran gas lines to the kitchen or vented the old range hoods outside.

It’ll be okay. Just not as ideal. Ours vents straight up under the upper cabinets, so the cabinet doors get all gooey if not cleaned on a regular basis. If I ever redo the kitchen, that thing is getting vented outdoors.
